CN 1812 Sleeper, “Matapedia”

Matapedia was built in 1923 for CNR as a 12 section, 1 bedroom sleeping car. It was modified in 1949 to contain 8 sections 2 bedrooms and a drawing room. It also recieved a new rounded roof, and new “Adlake” sealed windows. CN retired the car from revenue passenger service in 1976 and modified it for work train service. After suffering fire damage in Edmonton, the car was donated in 1996 to the Wainwright Railway Preservation Society by CN. The exterior of Matapedia has been repainted into the 1954 green & gold scheme, and the fire damaged area has been rebuilt as a display area. The car contains many original fixtures and four upper and lower berths have been preserved in the car. The car is open to the public.
